LACNIC to Participate at the Internet Governance Forum in Geneva

LACNIC's FRIDA Program will participate – together with its Seed Alliance partners ISIF Asia by APNIC and FIRE by AFRINIC – at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) that is set to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 18 to 21 December. The Regional Fund for Digital Innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean (FRIDA) is supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDR) and the Internet Society.

During this global Internet summit, FRIDA will organize an open forum on a new line of financing for gender-related initiatives which the Seed Alliance programs will make available in 2018 and a workshop on innovation and access. In addition, the FRIDA 2017 Awards will be presented to their recipients in a joint ceremony with ISIF Asia and FIRE. Likewise, Laura Kaplan, Development and Cooperation Manager at LACNIC, will present at a workshop on successful experiences in IPv6.

The IGF will bring together close to 3,000 professionals from around the world to discuss and analyze the most relevant Internet Governance issues.

Gender Perspective. On Monday morning, the Seed Alliance and Gender Inclusion open forum will be held (http://sched.co/CSD6), with emphasis on the gender perspective of the three programs – FIRE, ISIF Asia, and FRIDA. LACNIC will share how FRIDA promotes the reduction of the digital divide in the region.

Digital Future. Also on Monday, Seed Alliance will organize the workshop titled “How devices, content & innovative business models shape our digital future” (http://sched.co/CSCw). The round table will explore the link between innovative business models which contribute to access and the generation of local content to engage local communities.

Winners of the FRIDA Award. On Friday afternoon, the Seed Alliance Awards Ceremony will be held. There, FRIDA will present the award to the two initiatives that were selected as the winners of this year's edition of the program (http://sched.co/CSD9): the project titled Armonía by Cuban Universidad de Oriente and Brazilian organization Coding Rights.

Public Policies on IPv6. Finally, on Thursday 21st December, Kaplan will be one of the panelists in the workshop on “Public Policies to deploy IPV6 in developing countries. Successful International Experiences” (http://sched.co/CTsw).
