NRO Support for the IANA Transition

In March 2014, the United States National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced its intent to transition stewardship of the IANA functions to the Internet community. This transition has been envisioned from the inception of ICANN, and the NRO has expressed its support for this transition on multiple opportunities. (See documents below.)

Part of the IANA functions consists of assigning Internet numbering resources (IPv4, IPv6 and ASNs) to Regional Internet Registries, including LACNIC. NTIA currently contracts with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to carry out the IANA functions.
